After growing six inches in one night, ruining someone's hairstyle and then running shirtless across the walls of the dorm... Finding out that he might have the powers of a certain superhero was sending Miles over the edge.

He booked the most immediate portal back to Brooklyn and immediately started running toward his Uncle's apartment, trying to call Aaron on the way. Only to get an endless ringing phone. And then:

"--Yo, it’s Aaron. I'm outta town for a few days. Hit you when I'm back. Peace."

"No nononono. It's not possible," Miles kept telling himself over and over again. "It's just a Fandom thing. It was a normal spider. I'm a normal kid. Just a normal kid. It's a Fandom th-"

Now a typical New Yorker knows better to step off the curb into the street without looking at the signal. But Miles was very distracted and didn't see the car coming at him until the last moment. There was a screech of brakes as adrenaline kicked in and Miles...

had somehow launched himself into the air and landed 20 feet ahead on the other side of the street. People on the street paused and then cheered in amazement as Miles took off at a full sprint.

Suddenly the "I'm a normal kid" mantra wasn't helping anymore.

Finally coming to the end of the block Miles looked at his phone. He had to tell someone. He poked at his phone for a moment and for one split second dialed his father... and promptly hung up again.

He wandered the streets for the rest of the day before steeling himself to go back down into the subway again. Surely this is just Fandom stuff right? Tomorrow he'd be a normal kid. He was bitten by a normal spider. That was it right?

He found his way down into the abandoned subway stop again, this time finding it much easier to climb the gates and only getting stuck twice on the way. Using his phone as a flashlight he looked at the mirror and started his search for the spider. It hadn't been totally smooshed when he he smacked it. When he found it on the ground it was dead, legs up in the air.

It's a normal spider. It’s like boring how normal the spider is...

He poked it with his finger. Just to make sure. Yep. Totally-

The body of the spider began to refract light like a kaleidoscope buzzing with energy. And as quickly as it had started the spider corpse was just a normal spider again.

Miles felt the pit in his stomach drop even further. Why is this happening to me?

From the side of the room was a rumble and the ground beneath Miles' feet shook briefly. He looked over to a pitch black abandoned subway tunnel. If he was in his right mind, he might have walked away.

But something pulled him towards that tunnel. He could feel the hairs on his arms standing straight up and a surge of... something race up his spine.

Where am I going? ... What am I doing?

The tunnel began to turn and Miles entered a large room. It was an old subway car control center with rusted out equipment. Miles stomach was beginning to churn and twist as he felt something telling him... something. What's going on? What is happening to me?

And suddenly he could feel the message come in loud and clear.

Miles dove to the ground just in time to avoid a giant subway car being thrown through the wall. Stone and glass rained down over him as he could hear the sound of roars and voices from the other side. Looking up and over the new opening in the wall, Miles saw a blur of blue and red fly through the air and make a large impact into the side of what appeared to be a shipping container.

"... Spider-man?"

"Norman, listen to me. I cannot let you open a portal to another dimension! Brooklyn is not zoned for that!" Spider-Man shouted.

An impossibly large man covered in green scales and giant wings flung another shipping container at the hero. "It's not up to me!" the figure snarled. "Why don't you quit?"

"I don’t know I guess I like Brooklyn not being sucked into a black hole?" Spider-Man snarked back. "Staten Island maybe, NOT Brooklyn!"

Green Goblin. Spider-Man.... I need to get out of here! Miles turned to run only for a giant latticed metal beam to smash through the ceiling of the room. Miles fell and suddenly he found himself being thrown through the air and into the room where Spider-Man and Green Goblin were fighting. Heart pounding, Miles raced to the other side of the room and what appeared to be the only exit. Running down the hallway, Miles could hear the sound of explosions when he suddenly had to skid to a stop when he realized that the tunnel he was in suddenly dropped off into nothing. Beyond the hole in the wall was a giant chamber. On either side of the room was two large machines that would dwarf the size of the building that Miles lived in. The entire ceiling was covered in octagonal tiles which surrounded the room except... well except for the very bottom of the chamber which remained unfinished and a hole to no where.

"What is this place?" Miles asked aloud. It was then that he heard a strange noise coming from his back pack. An alien noise.

Suddenly without warning his backpack flap popped open and a green creature with sharp teeth leaped out. It landed next to Miles with a hiss only for it to stop and stare enraptured at the giant pieces of technology in front of them.

"Oh, my god," Miles gasped. "Are you a gremlin? Did you stowaway in my backpack?"

There was no time for an answer. From behind Miles could hear the sound of a fight coming closer and suddenly he found himself and the gremlin flung through the air as the Green Goblin was thrown through the tunnel. Dropping over the side, Miles found himself sliding down the wall and toward the giant hole at the bottom of the chamber.

And of course it was now that Miles couldn't find a way to keep sticking to the walls like he had done at the beginning of the day. Suddenly he found himself at the edge of the chamber floor, scrambling to stay above. And then there was open air and the realization of Miles that this was probably the end. Miles started screaming even though he knew it wouldn't do him any good. He was falling.

And suddenly he wasn't. Instead of falling down he was swinging and looking up he could see that Spider-Man was holding on to his jacket tightly. As the started of the upswing of momentum, Spider-Man pulled Miles forward into his arms and landed on a scaffolding platform. He placed Miles down on the ground and let out a sigh of relief.

"Did you know your shoes are untied?"

Miles looked down at his shoes, a little dumbstruck by the statement. "Uh-huh," he replied too numb from what just happened to provide any other kind of answer.

"This is a onesie so I don’t really have to worry about it," Spider-Man replied as if saving a guy flying through the air and battling giant green goblins was an everyday thing and that shoelaces and onesies were a totally valid topic in the middle of a super-hero battle. And then it happened again.

That weird surge up Miles' spine. The feeling of every hair standing on end.

And was even stranger is that Miles could feel the same type of feeling coming off of Spider-Man. And judging by the look on Spider-Man's very expressive mask-

"I thought I was the only one."

-he could feel it as well.

"You're like me."

Miles' response was quick and instinctive. "I don't want to be." As soon as it came out of his mouth it felt rude and scared.

Spider-Man didn't seem to be offended by it. If at all it made him more empathetic. "I don’t think you have a choice, kiddo," he said gently. "Got a lot going through your head, I’m sure."

Miles could only nod in response.

"You’re gonna be fine. I can help you," Spider-Man said giving Miles a pat on his shoulder. "If you stick around, I can show you the ropes."

Suddenly a feeling of relief flooded through Miles. For the first time since the morning started, he finally got the sense that everything was going to be okay.

It was then that the rumbling started again. Looking over his shoulder Spider-Man and Miles could see that the giant machines on either side of the chamber were beginning to light up and start to turn.

"I just need to destroy this super-collider real quick before the space time continuum collapses." Spider-Man said jabbing his thumb back at the chamber and talking to Miles as if he was about to go across the street and buy a hot dog. "Don’t move. See you in a bit--"

And suddenly Spider-Man launched himself into the air using just his webbing. Clinging on to the super-collider, Miles watched as Spider-Man used the momentum of the machine to fling himself to the roof of the chamber. Without much of a thought, Miles pulled out his phone to capture the entire thing on his camera. You know. Like a typical teenager.

Spider-Man crawled along the top of the ceiling and reached an access port where he pulled open a panel and started to work. Too far away to hear what was happening, Miles could only gasp as he saw a human figure launch himself off of a nearby observation deck. The figure was dressed in black and purple and seemed to have rocket powered boots and gloves as he pulled Spider-Man away from the ceiling and pulled him down to the machine below where Spider-Man was promptly pinned to the ground once again by the Green Goblin.

I should go up there and help him! Miles thought to himself only to have that thought quickly reversed from the giant angry scream coming from the Green Goblin.

Who am I kidding, I should not do that.

From above there was a click and a buzzing noise, much like the sound of a P.A. sound system turning on at school.

"Dooby do, dooby do. Watch out, here comes the spider-man!"

There was a dark sounding chuckle which was soon followed by the same voice.

"You like my new toy? It cost me a fortune. But hey, you can’t take it with you, right? You came all this way. Watch the test. It’s a hell of a freakin’ light show. You're going to love this."

Miles felt another chill come across him as he heard Spider-Man begin to shout. "No! No! Don’t do this! Stop! You don’t know what it can do, it’ll kill us all!"

The collider began to spin faster and faster and suddenly beams of energy shot out from both machines on the side of the room creating a massive explosion of energy. And then... there was the gremlin. It was hanging from the ceiling in a rapture as it looked at the giant beams of energy shooting back and forth. With a scream of elation it leaped down and disappeared into the beam of light.
And that's when the world began to move around them.

Feeling the ground shake beneath his feet, Miles watched on as Spider-Man escaped the Goblin's grip and tried to make his way back to the access panel. The brief hope Miles felt quickly dissapated as the Goblin grabbed Spider-Man in mid air and shoved him into the stream of energy created by the super collider. What happened next was a blur. Screams. Shouting and in a matter of seconds everything exploded.

And the room went completely dark. Falling to he ground, Miles began to search through the wreckage. The first thing he found was the dead body of Green Goblin, crushed by heavy machinery. Eventually Miles found Spider-Man. Under a pile of rubble and equipment and bleeding profusely.

"Are you all right?" Miles asked and suddenly felt like an idiot for asking.

"I’m fine, I’m fine. Just resting," Spider-Man said with a small cough. One of the lenses on his mask had shattered from the impact and Miles could see one blue eye peering through. "The coughing isn't a good sign."

Miles looked at him feeling hopeless. "Can you get up?"

There was another chuckle and Miles could swear that Spider-man was smiling. "Yeah, yeah I always get up..."

From above the sound of voices and movement came. Spider-Man looked up, his mask showing signs of concern. "Kingpin..."

He turned and looked at Miles. "Listen, we gotta team up here, we don’t have that much time."

From his glove he pulled out a USB drive and offered it to Miles. "This override key is the only way to stop the collider. Swing up there, use this key, push the button, and blow it up."

As Miles went to take the key, Spider-Man's other hand covered Miles' hand. His breath was shallower and he kept talking faster and faster.

"You need to hide your face. You don’t tell anyone who you are. No one can know. He’s got everyone in his pocket. If he turns the machine on again, everything you know will disappear. Your family, everyone -- everyone. Promise me you’ll do this."

Miles could hear the desperation in Spider-Man's voice. And Miles knew that any thought of Spider-Man surviving this whole thing was quickly dwindling. Looking into Spider-Man's face he knew what he needed to say. "I promise."

There was a sense of relief on Spider-Man's face as he finally released Miles' hand.

"Go! Destroy the collider. I’ll come and find you... it’s going to be ok."

Miles nodded doubtfully and started to climb his way to the top of the rubble. Looking up he could see the access panel Spider-Man was talking about. Way. Way. Way up there. Miles paused in disbelief. Was it really that far? How was he going to get up there? He had no web shooters. His ability to climb up surfaces had been hit or miss thus far. He felt the feeling of fear and doubt creep back into his stomach. He made a promise.

How was he going to do this?

From below he heard a voice rise up. The same one over the P.A. system.

"I’d say it’s nice to see you again, Spider-Man. But it’s not."

Miles peered down from his vantage point to see a mountain of flesh looming over Spider-Man. Next to him was the guy dressed in black and purple and a man with completely grey skin. T

"Hey Kingpin. How’s business?" Spider-Man asked with a cough and sounding weaker.

The giant man sounded almost joyful. "Booming. Ha!"

And with a deft movement for a man so large, the Kingpin pulled off Spider-Man's mask. It revealed a man with thin handsome features. Blonde hair and blue eyes. He did not look well. "Aw, that’s a no-no," Spider-Man groaned.

"What are you going to do about it kid?"

Spider-Man coughed again. "This might open a black hole under Brooklyn. It can’t be worth the risk."

Kingpin lowered himself down to scowl at the man on the ground, trapped by rubble. "
"It's not always about the money, Spider-Man. Prowler? Finish him."

The man in purple exposed a metallic claw from his hand and began to approach Spider-Man.

"Don’t you want to know what I saw in there?"

Kingpin held up a hand and Prowler stopped. He looked down at Spider-Man with a weird curious expression.

"I know what you’re trying to do," Spider-Man said with desperation creeping into his voice. "And it won’t work. They’re gone. You're not going to get Richard or Vanessa back, Fisk."

In a flash of fury and anger...

Kingpin delivered the deathblow to Spider-Man himself.

Miles let out a gasp and instantly Prowler and Kingpin turned towards his location.

"Kill that guy."

Miles ran. Through the subway and back to the streets, a giant hulk of a man blasting after him with rocket boots and claws that could kill.

Leaping across the subway rails and in front of a train, Miles barely escaped.

And unfortunately he knew only one place where he might be safe. Home.
