Room 305: Late Sunday Evening

Miles had barely gotten back to school before he had to turn around and leave Fandom for home yesterday. The funeral for his uncle had been for family and friends only which turned out to be just Mom, Dad and himself.

And then right before he was about to head to Portalocity, his Dad instead took him to the wall outside of the police station like he had promised on Friday.

So it was late when Miles got home. Luna, his daemon was waiting for him at the causeway and kept him company on the walk back to campus which was oddly comforting and discomforting at the same time.

When he finally got back to his room he sat down at his desk and tried to put the last week in perspective. Before all this he was a normal kid just trying to get back to Brooklyn and be with his friends. But now everything was different. Checking his messages he did find a reminder that he had an essay to turn in for science class. Not about science, but who Miles wanted to be. Well... that essay might be easier to write now than it had a week ago.

He opened up google docs and began to write as if he was some kind of mixture between Doogie Howser MD and Brian Johnson from Breakfast Club.

Okay. Let’s do this one last time. Yeah. For real this time, this is it.

My name is Miles Morales.

I was bitten by a radioactive spider.

And for the last two days I’ve been the one and only-

Scratch that.

I’ve been one of the many Spider-People. I think you know the rest. I saved a bunch of people.
I wrote this essay.
I got hit by a drone.
I did this with my Dad.
Slapped a sticker where I know my Dad can’t find it.
And when I’m all alone and think no one understands what I’m going through?
I think about my family who supports me.
I think about my friends who are there for me.
I think about the teachers who know more than I do and can make me a better person.
And I think about the others who went through this before me and do understand.
I never thought I’d be able to do any of this stuff, but I can.
I may not always win, but that’s fine.
A hero isn’t the one who always wins. It’s the one who always tries.
And if I can do it, then anyone can be the hero.
Anyone can be behind the mask. You can wear the mask.
You don’t need powers to be the hero. If you didn’t know that before, I hope you do now.
I certainly do.
Because I’m Spider-Man. And I’m not the only one.

Not by a long shot.

He saved the file and sent it off to his teacher before giving Luna one final scritch behind her ears and going to bed, putting on his headphones to listen to some music that would help him sleep.

[NFI. And my final plot post. Sorry for all the spamming this week! Thank you to all who participated (Especially , and for all the preplay) including all of you who dealt with gremlins, gremlin bites and coming to Brooklyn to save a city. Y'all are the best.]
